The following is a Q&A discussion with Steven Blough, Jr., Information Technology Manager at the Fred Beans Auto Group. Fred Beans is the leading auto group in Bucks County, PA with over 19 different auto brands plus wholesale parts warehouses, a retail parts store and an auto body division.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about this latest project that Specialized Storage worked on with you?Why a Leading Auto Group Chooses Specialized Storage Solutions

A: As part of our growth, we decided to build a new building to house our engine blocks, cores and sheet metal. The new warehouse also provides us flexibility with other growth opportunities. Since we were building new, we wanted to be as efficient as possible by maximizing the space. An empty warehouse looks huge, but once you start storing your products it can get filled in pretty quickly. We needed the ability to carry a wide variety of our parts and allow us for additional growth. That’s why we called Bill.

Q: Fred Beans has worked with Specialized Storage for a long time. Is that correct?

A: Absolutely. The Fred Beans group has worked with Specialized Storage since the mid-90’s in pretty much all of our facilities. They’re our go-to company when it comes to getting creative with space and their innovative storage solutions help us to improve our efficiency. Their expertise in material handling and floor plans also plays a huge factor. We do bid our large projects out, but Bill has always come out as the clear choice and the one who will provide the most value for us.

Q: Can you explain a little bit about your needs in the new building and the process involved with Specialized Storage Solutions?

A: Sure. As I said, we called Bill into this process to help provide an efficient layout of racking that maximized space and could work with our narrow aisle equipment. Bill knows the questions to ask and really listens to our goals and needs and then gets to work. He came back with a fantastic draft that addressed everything we discussed. He generally nails it on the first pass and needs little—if any—tweaking or clarification from us. His entire team just gets what we’re trying to do and knows what needs to be done. It’s nice to work with people that you can rely on like that.

Q: How do your employees like the solutions provided by Specialized?

 

A: They love them. The quality of materials are always top notch and really make their work a lot more productive and efficient. From the rack he installed on this warehouse project to past projects that utilized Borroughs workstations and cabinets or Strongbox mezzanines – both structural and shelf-supported – our employees know that when the team at Specialized is onsite that it’s a good thing.

Q: Would recommend Specialized to others that are in a similar situation?

A: I always recommend them. I tell anyone who asks, Specialized Storage Solutions is an asset to any company when looking at building new or working within your existing building. Bill, Christine, and the whole staff always go above and beyond. They are always a phone call away and have pulled me out of several jams before.
